Getting Started
Do I need a Tiller subscription to use Ultimate Envelopes?
No. UE 26 includes both a standard version and a Tiller version. The standard version works without Tiller — you enter transactions manually or import them yourself. The setup screen lets you choose which version to use.
What do I need to get started?
- A Google account (free)
- Google Sheets (free, included with Google)
- Your UE 26 sheet, available on Gumroad
That’s it. No additional installs, no subscriptions.
How do I get my copy of the sheet?
After purchasing on Gumroad, you’ll receive a link to the Google Sheet template. Open it, then go to File → Make a copy to save it to your own Google Drive. The copy is yours permanently.
Where do I get the companion app?
The companion app link is included in the sheet. You’ll find it on the setup screen or in the sheet’s menu. It opens in your browser — no download required.
The Sheet
Does my financial data leave Google Sheets?
No. All processing happens inside your browser and within Google’s infrastructure. Your transaction amounts, account balances, and budget data are never sent to external servers.
Can I use Ultimate Envelopes on multiple devices?
Yes. Because your budget lives in Google Sheets, you can access it from any device with a browser. The companion app also saves your group collapse/expand preferences separately for mobile and desktop, so each device has its own layout.
Can I customize which columns are visible?
Yes. Both the Envelopes and Balances tabs have a settings panel where you can toggle columns on or off. The order you check them is the order they appear.
Transactions
How do I add transactions without Tiller?
Open the companion app and tap Add Transaction (or use the Transactions tab in the sheet). Fill in the description, amount, envelope, and account. The app saves it to your Google Sheet instantly.
What if I use Tiller?
With the Tiller version, your bank transactions are automatically imported into the sheet by Tiller. You then categorize them in the Transactions tab by assigning each one to an envelope.
Can I import transactions from a CSV?
Manual CSV import depends on your sheet setup. For automatic importing, Tiller is the recommended option.
The Companion App
Does the companion app require a login?
It uses your Google account (the same one that owns the sheet) to connect. You’ll authorize access once through Google’s standard OAuth flow.
Does the companion app work offline?
No. The app needs an internet connection to read from and write to your Google Sheet.
Can I install it on my phone?
Yes. The companion app is a Progressive Web App (PWA). In Safari on iPhone, tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android in Chrome, tap the menu and choose Add to Home Screen. It will launch full-screen like a native app.
Tiller
What is Tiller?
Tiller Money is a separate service that connects to your bank accounts and automatically imports your transactions into Google Sheets. Ultimate Envelopes can use this transaction data when you choose the Tiller version.
Is Tiller required?
No. See the first question above.
Who do I contact for Tiller issues?
Tiller is an independent service. For issues with transaction imports, bank connections, or Tiller’s feeds, contact Tiller support directly.
