Getting the App

Where do I get the companion app?

The link is in your email receipt after purchase. It gives you access to a Google Sheet with the companion app link and instructions on how to enable it. Then follow the Companion App setup guide.

Do I need the UE Sheet to use the app?

No. The first time you open the app, you choose which kind of spreadsheet you’re connecting to:

  • Ultimate Envelopes: full envelope budgeting, including Envelopes, Payday funding, Balances, and Transactions.
  • Tiller Foundation: budget vs. actuals for a Tiller Foundation Template sheet, plus Balances and Transactions.

Can I put it on my phone’s home screen?

Yes. Open your app link on your phone, then:

  • iPhone (Safari): tap the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen.
  • Android (Chrome): tap the menu and choose Add to Home Screen.

You’ll get an icon that opens the app in one tap.

Does the companion app require a login?

The app runs under the Google account that set it up. You authorize it once during setup, using Google’s standard sign-in.

Keep your app link private. Treat it like a password, since it opens your budget.

Does my data leave Google?

No. The app reads and writes your Google Sheet directly, and your amounts and balances stay in your Google account. To show merchant logos, the app asks Google’s icon service for the merchant’s website icon. Only the merchant’s web address is sent, never your transactions.

Using the App

How do I add a transaction?

Tap Add Transaction, then fill in the description, amount, envelope, and account. The app saves it to your Google Sheet instantly.

Can I customize which columns are visible?

Yes. Tap the tab again in the tab bar, then Settings, and check the columns you want. The order you check them is the order they appear. See Envelope Settings and Balance Settings.

On a phone, envelopes are shown as cards, so envelope column choices only appear on a computer.

Can I use it on more than one device?

Yes. Open the same app link on any phone or computer.

Which groups you’ve expanded or collapsed is remembered separately for phone-sized and computer-sized screens, so each keeps a layout that fits.

Does the companion app work offline?

No. The app needs an internet connection to read from and write to your Google Sheet.
